“Hands-on History to Inspire, Engage & Create”
Family Trail and Events
Sometimes knowing where to start and what to look at is the hardest part of visiting a museum. So, we’ve created a family trail to guide you around our galleries and exhibitions.
We place special characters or objects around the museum. In order to find them, pick up a question sheet from reception. As you find the answers to the questions you will also find our characters or objects! The trail will show you the best way around the museum and highlight some interesting facts along the way.
Hand in your completed sheet at reception to be entered into a monthly draw to win a prize!
The trail changes every three months.
In addition to the Family Trail we organise many Family Friendly events throughout the year, including the ever-popular Magic Mondays; a themed craft afternoon organised by our volunteers during the school holidays and of course our Santa with gift and crafts in December. For more information head over to our Events page.
For visitors to our museum we have a collection of specially curated Family Bags. These bags are located at reception and are free to use. They contain a selection of games, toys and activities to be enjoyed alongside our exhibitions for our more playful learners and visitors. Our current Family Bag themes are Transport, The Victorians, Textiles and Archaeology.
We welcome all visitors and hope our museum facilities can meet everyone’s needs. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions about our facilities please contact us.
We currently have the following to make our museum and gallery more accessible:
- A lift is available to take you from the ground floor up to the gallery.
- Ramps are fitted around each gallery to ensure you can look at and see all our exhibits.
- We are a breastfeeding-friendly museum.
- Assistance dogs are welcome.
- There is an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities located to the left of reception
