Exhibitions based around the year 1962 – the year the museum was opened – have been mounted throughout the museum to celebrate this special occasion.

These exhibitions have involved staff, regular volunteers and Friends, the Boredom Buster volunteers and children and a collaboration with the students participating in Saddleworth School’s History Club.

50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MUSEUM 2012 

In 2012 the Museum is celebrating its 50th year of serving the local community as a Museum, Art Gallery and Community Resource. There have been a number of events throughout the year including a number of 1960s themed displays around the Museum which have been done in collaboration with the Friends of Saddleworth Museum and the History Club of Saddleworth School.

The biggest project which we are hoping to get funding for from the Heritage Lottery is a scheme to refurbish many areas of the museum including new displays, new storage for the collection, a study room and better disabled access – if you would like to help through a donation or sponsorship we would love to hear from you – please contact Peter Fox the curator if you would like to talk about the project – either phone 01457 874093 or  curator@saddleworthmuseum.co.uk  the main aim of the project is to put the Museum on a sound footing for the next 50 years.
