Conditions of Hire
1.
The Gallery is available for hire at the following times and
prices excluding VAT at 17.5% : NO CHARGE FOR VAT if the event is
FREE and not selling anything - i.e. talk etc.

These
charges include the services of the caretaker but do not include
the use of the kitchen for which the following additional prices
apply:

Set
Up Fee
If
access is required to the Art Gallery to set up prior to an event
outside the above times then the following charges apply:
Weekdays
£8 per hour or part of an hour
Saturday
& Sunday £9.50 per hour or part of an hour
Access
to the patio and gardens is not permitted unless by prior arrangement
with the Curator. If you have permission to use the patio and
gardens please supervise children closely due to our proximity
to the canal.
2.
As a result of new legislation, under the ‘Food Safety (General
Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995, it is compulsory for any group
holding an event in the Gallery, where food and drink are to be
served, to have one member who holds a current Basic Food Hygiene
Certificate. It will be the responsibility of the hirer on the
day to ensure compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations.
3.
The Gallery will provide bin liners, pedal bin and cleaning materials.
The hirer is responsible for leaving the Art Gallery and kitchen
clean, draining the boilers and removing from the premises anything
brought in, including packaging and empty bottles (there is a
bottle bank in the Museum car park). Should there be any excessive
cleaning required as a result of your function an extra charge
will be made. (This cleaning charge also applies to the patio/gardens
– see also notes 1 and 7).
4.
The hirer is responsible for notifying the curator of, and shall
at their own expense, make good any damage or loss caused to the
Gallery, Museum or kitchen or gardens.
5.
Evening events must finish, and the building be vacated by 11-00pm
to comply with our entertainment licence.
6.
The Museum is not licensed for alcohol so an occasional licence
is required for all events where alcohol is sold. The hirer is
responsible for obtaining the licence.
7.
Smoking is not permitted in the Gallery or on the patio/gardens.
The use of candles is not permitted.
8.
The maximum number of guests shall not exceed 100 people.
We can seat 78 people for a meal. These
restrictions are necessary to comply with the Fire Regulations
and in no circumstances shall the numbers exceed the figures quoted.
9.
A £12.00 deposit (non-refundable) is required at the time
of booking and the balance is payable on the day of the event
at the latest. Cancellation of an event requires 7 days notice.
After 7 days 50% of total amount payable will be charged.
10.
In the event of an emergency there is a telephone box outside
the Museum, which should be used to contact the emergency services
(999 or 112 for Fire, Police or Ambulance). Greater Manchester
Police 0161 872 5050. ADT will also contact the Fire
Brigade.
11.
Fire escapes are located as follows:
a.
Museum entrance to car park
b. Kitchen and Gallery down ramp to yard and High Street, then
to car park
The
assembly point is the grassed bank next to the canal.
Fire
extinguishers and fire blankets are located by the kitchen door
Organisers are advised to make themselves familiar with the position
of fire exits, fire-fighting equipment and escape routes.
Please ask the Caretaker or Museum staff for details.
12.
There is disabled access to the Art Gallery in the form of a chair
lift but access to the Museum is by stairs.
13.
The hirer shall ensure that no decorations, notices or direction
signs are affixed without the consent of the Curator.
14.
Please note that the public will require access to the Art Gallery
exhibitions during normal Museum opening hours.
Easter- October Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm; Sunday 12-5pm
November – Easter Monday – Sunday 1pm – 4pm;
15.
These regulations should be read in conjunction with the attached
booking form. The hirer should retain the Conditions of Hire,
and the completed form returned to the Museum.
16.
The person nominated on the booking form will be held responsible
for the premises and the safety of all guests during the hire
period.
