Friends of the museum can now renew their membership online.

Since October 2020 new “Friends” have been able to join the membership scheme online and can still do so. Existing Friends are normally requested, with a Spring newsletter, to renew their membership by post. A few renew their membership with an annual standing order or Bacs (Bankers Automated Clearing Services) payment but there are also a few without even an internet connection who can only pay by cheque or cash each year.

The museum closure, the pandemic and the recent launch of online services enabled the “Friends” to re-think the opportunities. Bacs is still the preferred method of renewal and the “Friends” will continue to make strenuous efforts to keep open the postal methods of renewal for members who may be without internet connections, isolated and vulnerable.

However on the 15th of February 2021 the “Friends” launched an additional method for existing members to renew. Existing members can now renew online. The method is both secure and simple (the member only needs to know their membership type and post code). During the pandemic many of us have moved “online” more than usual and the “Friends” believe this additional method of renewal will be appreciated, and used, by significant numbers of their membership. This method can be accessed through > Membership Renewal – Saddleworth Museum

The volunteer membership secretary may have had to relinquish some other duties to enable the change and administer successfully all these different streams. The “Friends” committee wish it to be known that they remain committed to both electronic and postal methods of renewal and dedicated to providing high quality memberships. The “Friends” membership scheme, and all the associated activities, events, and fundraising efforts, remains one of the most essential pillars in the continued survival of Saddleworth Museum and is run totally by volunteers.

(editor’s note-since this press release the new online method of renewing has already proven itself successful and welcomed by the membership)
